“Joan, we would like to thank you for the outstanding presentation that you delivered at our 5th Annual Meet n Greet for our weight management convention. Your motivational presentation “Walking My Way Back To Me” was truly an uplifting and educational experience for our attendees. There was a great deal of very positive feedback from our participants. You are an inspiration to many on this weight loss journey. When you spoke to our members you presented in a manner that connects and encourages. Your authenticity and enthusiasm are very appealing, and your unique perspective adds great validity to your message. We highly recommend your skills as a dynamic speaker and we thank you once again for your offering. “

“Joan spoke to our group of over 200 women; offering inspiration, entertainment and motivation. She did that with flying colours. She spoke of her past challenges, many of which would seem insurmountable to most of us. From there, she presented the steps she took in order to arrive where is today; one of the most praised and marveled at speakers of our area. Not only is she a huge inspiration to fitness and health; she can be seen constantly giving back to her community and is helping so many others who are struggling to achieve their own healthier lifestyles. Joan interspersed her talk with getting the group to stand and take part in movement activities to great stimulating music. Laughter could be heard throughout the entire room – they loved it. Joan Minnery is a fantastic motivational speaker -- no matter what age group, gender or economic level. She puts her heart into her topic and makes people believe they can achieve their goals. She gets them moving in more ways than one. She is a great inspiration. Never has so many Probus members asked us to rebook a speaker again.”
- Vera Skitch, Chair, Grand River Probus, Brantford Ontario
"Joan Minnery is one of the most motivational speakers I have ever heard. The first time I heard Joan tell her story I looked around the crowd and I do not believe there was a dry eye in the house, including mine. Joan is very upbeat gets the crowd involved and is very caring. She has been an entertainer all her life but you can tell Joan’s passion is motivating and getting up in front of people to not only talk about her struggles but help people keep their eye on their prize." - Doug Lucas, Chapter President-TOPS #4199, Elora Ontario
"Joan was asked to participate as a speaker at “Inspiring Women”, our fundraising event in April 2012. Joan has no fear of sharing her weight loss journey either in small, quaint gatherings or large formal functions. She is passionate about sharing her story with others in the hopes that she helps one person at a time to choose activity, fitness and healthy eating over the opposite. Her audience is attentive and she has the right mix of ‘light versus serious’ conversation throughout her presentation." - Vicki Spadoni, Children's Safety Village, Brantford Ontario
"While attending the Best Western hotel in Brantford; I had the wonderful opportunity to share in the amazing experience that IS Joan Minnery! With her incredible ability to 'hold' an audience, she took us along on her life changing journey highlighting the fight for her life. We felt her sorrow, her determination and her joy as she led us through her trials and tribulations along her path of growth. Visual displays of her former misery drew empathy, understanding and reliability from the conference participants. Joan is a charismatic and honest speaker. She reaches into her heart and lays it on the stage in an offering to those who still suffer. Joan shares her hopeful message so effectively that I felt empowered to take my first step! Joan Minnery's expertise in motivational speaking, along with her extensive knowledge of healthy lifestyles and fitness, make her a dynamo that captures, informs and inspires her audience!"
- Beverley Miranda, Canadian Red Cross, Brantford Ontario
"I have been to a few of Joan Minnery's Health Symposiums in Brantford and Brant County. She is one VERY motivational speaker, happy to be there for those of us who attend. She's a veritable dynamo of positivity. She imparts a great deal of wisdom and has no problem with letting us know of her personal journey and her reason(s) behind it. She gets us all energized with a sneak peek of work out exercising - with us participating - just to help us get motivated. Joan’s presentations are full audience participation. I personally have seen people cry or applaud Joan for her success. Everyone willingly gives their answers to questions that Joan poses about everything pertaining to Weight management and health. All aspects are covered in an audience participated manner." - Bev Hilliker, Brantford Ontario -
“Put Down The Fork & Get Moving”
Hey Folks, Profs, Teachers, Colleagues, and Associates!!!
As you may know, I have enjoyed an enthusiastic lucrative career as a Motivational Speaker. My professional life is full of singing, dancing, research, teaching, touring and everything in front of large crowds. At present, I am teaching upwards of 150 individuals.
I recently launched a new music initiative here in Brantford entitled Notes and Beats -- a Community Music class deeply rooted in teaching and learning about rhythms, Canadian music history, percussion, singing and song-writing. We are overwhelmed with its success and are now expanding to another location to take our concept to Seniors.
I am delighted to announce that I am bridging my professional life with my academic and research at Wilfrid Laurier University to begin offering my services as a Guest Lecturer/Music Facilitator.
If you are an educator, music facilitator, event director, function coordinator or professor -- I’d invite you to bring NOTES and BEATS to your organization. Envision YOUR classroom or event with happy and motivated people as participants appreciate being highly engaged and energized. My workshops are fun, interactive & creative. I will get people up and moving, using straightforward techniques to engage in dialogue, movement and social interaction. I deliver insightful yet crucial messages with passion, energy, humour and the added element of music.
I can guarantee you this: It will be a win/win situation for both participants and myself. Our workshop -- Motivation, Movement and Music, is a complete windfall for audiences.
Joan Minnery: Community Musician, lecturer, author, professional entertainer, and music educator. I advocate and work with a profound mandate that music should be respectful, accessible, and inclusive to everyone. It should be based primarily on participation to be available to everyone regardless of age, ability or background.
I have over 30 years of experience as a Musical Educator, Professional Entertainer, and Music Facilitator and running my Community Music practice. While most of my students have been children and teens -- I have had plenty of opportunities to work with marginalized groups such as individuals with intellectual challenges, seniors, individuals with vision and hearing impairments, people with physical challenges and a myriad of ethnic communities.
My M.A. scholarly Capstone research focused primarily on the “Relationship of Early Music Exposure to Shaping Cultural Identity in Racialized Youth.”
I work freelance as an advisor, specialist, advisor and consultant as I encourage organizations on inclusiveness in music methodology and pedagogy.

Want To Try Something Uniquely Different For YOUR Workplace - Team Bonding and Seminars?
Our “Notes and Beats” Community Music Workshops focus on the Facilitation of Group Bonding and Therapeutic Synergy through the Art of Music Making and Movement. They are very interactive and incorporate communication with fun-enhanced alliance activities that encourage collaboration and unified teamwork. Above all else, they are a unique concept for boosting personal and environmental morale.
Notes and Beats use simple percussion instruments such as Maracas, Egg Shakers, Triangles, Tambourines, Drumsticks, Rhythm Sticks, Bells and Kazoos in a smile-induced laid-back atmosphere of simply making music. We choose well-known songs from the Beatles, CCR, Bruno Mars, ABBA, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elvis etc. Or ANY songs that our teams suggest … we’ve even workshopped Metallica.
We encourage our teams to make music together. To sing, hum, beat and create a memorable interactive entertainment scenario and create a greater team purpose = SYNERGY!!!
The benefits of music are infinite. We know that music benefits individuals and groups in improved memory through its repetitive nature while forming patterns and boosting brain functions and cognitive development. Overall literacy is enlightened through planning, flexibility, and coordination. There is also the increased development of large and fine motor skills, socialization, language, friendship, reading skills, and math skills. Through songwriting, we draw on the science of music to inspire creativity while strengthening connections amidst feelings of accomplishment and self-confidence. Music helps to manage emotions, boosts enjoyment, reduces anxiety, and can be a welcome antidote for loneliness and self-isolation as it brings people together.
We believe our workshops can help improve the company structure and enhance respect for each other and ourselves. Our workshops give everyone a chance to practice and create in a situation where the stakes are low. Notes and Beats strengthen interpersonal relationships, teaches new skills, and organize a group of people into a cooperative friendly framework -- all of which can assuredly strengthen a company’s brand and unites the purpose all around. Happy team bonding can help articulate a brand.
Our workshops are ideal for small group settings of 5-20 people. (This can be adapted to larger groups too). They can run anywhere from 30-90 minutes and will focus primarily on music making, learning songs through rhythm, notes, beats, singing, music history, music trivia, and movement. Our workshops can be also turned into a song-writing seminar to create an anthem, song, jingle, or a fun-filled pick-me-up.
I am available for Lectures, Seminars, Workshops, Corporate Parties, Seasonal Functions, Team Building Events, Private Groups, Hospitals, Treatment Centres, Homeless Shelters, Retirement Residences, Group Homes, Schools, Colleges, Universities and any environment.
